Sidney Joyner

Candidate for Suffolk County Legislature (16th LD)

Sidney Joyner has served as a School Board Trustee in the South Huntington Union Free School District since 2017 and is currently in his second term. He is a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., where he mentors high school students and volunteers in community programs. Sidney also serves as the Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Urban League of Long Island and was appointed as a Commissioner for the Town of Huntington Housing Authority. Sidney serves on the board of the Weeksville Heritage Center in Brooklyn. He is a lifetime member of the NAACP Huntington Branch where he is serves as 3rd Vice President.

Sidney Joyner is the Director of Real Estate at Suffolk County Department of Economic Development and Planning. In this role he is responsible for managing the daily operations of the Division of Real Property Acquisition and Management of the County’s Affordable Housing Opportunities Program, Surplus Auction Sales, Inventory, Appraisal & Acquisitions, Redemption and Direct Sales.

It was early in his adolescent years where he developed his passion for volunteering and mentoring.  As a youth Sidney volunteered with local elected leaders & faith-based organizations while furthering his education in the political process. This experience deepened his resolve on the importance of civic engagement to achieve one’s goals, effect change and break down barriers of inequality. He has mentored numerous young men of color through various organizations and community relationships.

As an Ordained Deacon at Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church in Huntington, it has been my privilege to serve the community in a Christian ministry that exemplifies the values of my family’s ancestry.  Sidney resides in Huntington, N.Y. with his wife, Dr. Kimberly Joyner where they are the proud parents of two children, Lena & Julien Joyner.
